EBITDA Margin

Formula

EBITDA ÷ Net Revenue

Definition

EBITDA Margin measures a company's operating profitability as a percentage of net revenue. EBITDA stands for Earnings Before Interest, Taxes, Depreciation, and Amortization. By excluding financing costs, taxes, depreciation, and amortization, EBITDA Margin provides a view of operating performance that can be useful for comparing profitability across periods and companies with different capital structures.

Interpretation

A higher EBITDA Margin generally indicates greater operating profitability, while a lower or negative margin indicates that a greater share of revenue is being consumed by operating costs.

The trend in EBITDA Margin can also show operating leverage as a company scales. Expanding margins indicate that EBITDA is growing faster than revenue, while contracting margins indicate that operating costs are growing faster than revenue.
